Clubman of the Year 2023 Trevor Mott

Clubman of the year 2023 Trevor Mott

Trevor joined us in February 2022 having just retired. He was advised it would take him at least 2 months to gain enough fitness to manage a whole session and build up his ball control. He had previously managed youth teams, so knew how to play football.

Trevor shows great respect towards everyone and treats them all the same – always pleasant and friendly to all. Members trust him and it is good to see him back again.

Trevor was keen to build up again the all-inclusive element of playing for the Club in representative teams. He aimed it particularly at those who didn’t feel up to the more competitive nature which had developed in tournaments over the past few years.

The group was called the NSG (Not-So-Goods) – a name they were proud to own and they became a very cohesive and supportive group within the Club.

He followed advice and began with friendlies against clubs who would put forward similar non-tournament standard players. From there, the NSG s moved on to holding/taking part in round-robin festivals at Goals involving more teams on the same basis. The players really enjoyed this and the “banter” that followed.

Trevor then entered teams into tournaments where there were different divisions, so they had an opportunity to play at the same level as the opposition. However, not surprisingly, it did take quite a long time for them to even win a game – but when they did after about 6 months, they celebrated as if they had won the FA Cup.

Footnote: The team eventually won their first trophy, Division 1 of the Worthing League in August 2024 – a tremendous achievement celebrated by the whole club.  Sadly, Trevor was unable to play on that occasion, as he was still recovering from an operation and subsequent health treatment at that time. The good news is that he returned to playing at club sessions in November 2024  having continued to organize teams during his absence.
